Rocky Mountain Rally 2009.

RMR Test Day

Packing up the car and driving to Calgary, AB from Kamloops BC, starting at 11:55pm on Wednesday night, to arrive early in Calgary for some vital camera store shopping and test day coverage, seemed like a good idea at the time. more...

New Sets this Week:

Rally Sport -> Cochrane Winter Rally 2009.

I left for Cochrane Winter Rally at around 1pm on Thursday with Chris and Ken Maydaniuk of Team Alliance Rally. The drive took about 6.5 hours as Chris, Ken and I discussed everything from politics, to sports, to photography to of course, RALLY!

This is winding up to being an exciting year rally wise, and the photo coverage of Cochrane Winter Rally certainly started off my WCRC coverage off with a bang....and a busted knee. more...

February 9th, post rallye Perce-Neige.

February 9th, post rally.

Well I suppose an apology is in order. When I woke up on the day of the rally I told myself I would have time to write a full blog that evening. That certainly didn’t happen.
After a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs at 7:30 I drove out to the first stage I was going to cover, set up my camera, and waited. I found a spot that I figured for sure cars would get air off of. I was mistaken; the cars went so fast they just skimmed over the bumps! However the photos started rolling in at an alarming rate and I got swept away quickly in the excitement of rally. more...

Pre-travel Update.

February 8th, pre travel blog.

I know I said I would manage to get a blog up once per day, but in rally, when you’re having that much fun, sometimes time passes without you realizing it. Before I even knew it it was 1:00am and we were heading back to town to spray champagne and sleep. Then up at 7 for Banquet and festivities! What an amazing rally. more...

February 6th, Rally Perce-Neige Maniwaki, My own Recce day!

Feb 6th, 2009.

Fortunately, I was not woken up by a rude alarm clock today, but by the sound of engines roaring awake to shake off the far beyond freezing cold of what I am told is a relatively normal January day in Maniwaki, Quebec. "Normal?" I think to myself. Here I am, used to sleeping on glaciers in winter camping expeditions, and I am still feeling chilly! These Maniwakians are a tough group of people!

I ate a quick breakfast with Terry and Linda Epp from CARS, consisting of some eggs, bacon, and the biggest pieces of toast I have ever seen in my life. more...

Rallye Perce-Neige Maniwaki, arrival.

Feb 5th , 2009.

3:30 in the morning the alarm rings. My girlfriend slaps the alarm clock off the bedside table and says “its time to go do your rally ‘thing’”. So with that firm pronouncement I got out of bed, re-checked camera gear, and got ready to leave for the airport, and after three or four more frantic checks of my camera gear I finally decided I was ready to go.

The rally ‘thing’ that my girlfriend so bluntly described is a short flight and drive (relatively) to Maniwaki, Quebec for the first round of the Canadian Rally Championship, Rallye Perce-Neige! more...

Mountain Trials 2008.

An event close to home is always nice from a travel perspective. With Merritt, British Columbia being only an hour drive away from home it was a short trip to get ready for the Mountain Trials 2008 regional event. more...

If you had told me three years ago that I would be sitting here, eagerly leafing through internet article after internet article on performance rally cars and subsequently the photographic knowledge of how to make them look nice on “film” I would have laughed in your face. I was never all that interested in cars growing up. more...
