Neuville Gets Seat for New Zealand

Nasser Al-Attiyah will be unable to take part in WRC Rally New Zealand (June 21-24) due to his Olympic Games’ commitments and has chosen to entrust his Citroën DS3 WRC to Thierry Neuville, who will enter the event on behalf of the Qatar World Rally Team.

It would certainly be no understatement to say that Nasser At-Attiyah is a busy man! The Qatari simply never stops: official entrant in the WRC and a regular competitor in the Middle East Rally Championship, he also somehow finds time to take part in rally-raids and Skeet shooting competitions.

Mikkelsen Keeps IRC Lead After Corsica

SKODA UK Motorsport’s Andreas Mikkelsen has maintained his lead in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge after finishing in a points-scoring 5th position in his factory-prepared Fabia S2000 on the 55th Tour of Corsica.

Co-driven by Ola Fløene, the IRC champion led the event at the end of Leg 1, but a collision with a telegraph pole and subsequent puncture on SS5 cost him almost three minutes and denied him any chance of victory. Having dropped from 1st to 8th, Andreas fought back to 5th on Leg 2 before driving conservatively on Leg 3 to maintain position.

Campana Battles for Second

Pierre Campana finds himself in the middle of an exciting battle for second place as the second day of this week’s Tour de Corse draws to a close following a solid day of rallying across today’s five special stages in warm and sunny conditions.

Pierre started off strongly, intent on cementing his podium place, and would have finished higher than his eventual sixth position had it not been for a problem at the finish. Pierre found that the flying finish board was 310m further back than expected which resulted in a hesitant end to the stage, costing valuable seconds.

ŠKODA UK Motorsport’s Andreas Mikkelsen is consolidating a strong Intercontinental Rally Challenge points-scoring 5th position in his factory-prepared Fabia S2000, despite losing the Tour of Corsica rally lead with a time-consuming incident on SS5.

Having started in Ajaccio, Andreas and co-driver Ola Fløene led after the opening three stages of Leg 1 to arrive at the first overnight halt in Calvi 2.8 seconds ahead of their main rival Dani Sordo.

Sordo Eligible for Points in Corsica

In view of MINI’s intention to register as an official Intercontinental Rally Challenge manufacturer, Eurosport Events, the promoter of the IRC, has sought a waiver to amend its sporting regulations to allow Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio to score points in the IRC drivers’ and co-drivers’ classifications respectively on the Tour de Corse rally.

Crews using MINI’s John Cooper Works Super 2000 will be able to score IRC points on future rounds of the IRC once MINI has confirmed its registration. At such time, MINI will become eligible for IRC manufacturer points as well.
