Hey rally fans and followers, welcome to our shakedown day blog on the WRS website. Again proud to be part of their coverage from Ojibwe Forest Rally.
Here we are, primed for a main event in Bemidji, MN. We completed two runs of a dead-end 4.5 mile stage by Lake Itasca. Little drizzle, mostly cloudy weather, but it still got hot in the car. It felt so good to get back in the car and read the notes. We both got a bit rusty since begining of June when we did STPR, but I think those few runs on the Shakedown worked well for us. Checked a few diff settings and got faster from run to run on it.
Peter also gave a ride to an X Games starter on the floor during rally car racing, Mr. Joe Duncan. He really enjoyed the trip in the rally car and we were glad we could thank him like that for the work he did at X Games. Joe shared his stories from winter X Games with us as well and it was a great experience overall.
A few things worth noting from shakedown was Dave Mirra pulled over on the side of the stage with an electrical issue, probably fuel delivery and Dillon VanWay went off deep into the woods on a R5>4 to a point were we missed him when we went by right after him. Sounds like both of them will still be able to compete.
Our crew is all in at this point, Gary and Margarite worked on the car this morning. Installed new custom fender liners that came out really good, heavy duty stuff :)
Curt and Colin got here this afternoon right in time for shakedown. We all just had a dinner with Team Markut and had many laughs on topics like: Talking while you sleep.
We start late in the day tomorrow to do most of the stages at night. Weather reports call for rain tonight and cloudy day tomorrow. That should mean no dust for us which is always good.
This was also a topic on the air of Mix 103.7 in Bemidji tonight when Piotr and Pat Moro got interviewed about 7:30pm. Glad to see local media getting more involved with our sport. Glad to also blog on World Rally Sport and share this experience at Ojibwe Forest Rally with you readers.
Till tomorrow ! Over and out !
