Staffan Parmander, who co-drove Patrik Sandell in this season’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge, recently completed the gruelling East African Safari Classic in fifth position.
The experienced Swede navigated British driver Steve Perez in a Datsun 260Z over the demanding mud and rock-coated tracks in Kenya and Tanzania that were used to create a 4165-kilometre loop around Mombasa.
Parmander could have finished higher up the order on the nine-day event had it not been for the extensive delay he and Perez suffered on the day one when their car was struck down by a broken propshaft, which they had to replace themselves.
Kronos Vintage, an offshoot of Kronos Racing, which has claimed two IRC drivers’ titles in the past, was also in action on the event. Gerard Marcy was the team’s leading finisher in fourth.
