In what was perhaps one of the best podium battles of the season Pastrana found both pace and consistency through each stage of Day 2 leading his team to victory.
Ken Block who was leading the Rally after Day 1 found himself having to push harder and harder to maintain his lead, which eventually led to an unfortunate late spin and later puncture, forcing him to concede the lead and settle for second place.
Canadian driver Antoine L'Estage, co-driver Nathalie Richard, had a very solid showing in their new Mitsubishi Evo X. The team were 10 seconds behind Ken Block after Day 1 and felt very confident going into Day 2 with the longer sweeping stages yet to run.
The three teams were fighting stage to stage for each and every second. Unfortunately for L'Estage, his Evo suffered power steering failure which forced him to struggle with the car's steering, losing considerable time against the Subaru Team USA competitors, Block and Pastrana, leaving him in third place overall.
It was a fantastic battle, something any rally driver will tell you is one of the best parts of competing with your peers. It was a short rally which forced each team to battle hard on every competitive mile, knowing that each second gained could make the difference between victory and defeat.
Fantastic fans, great landscape, strong competition - it was a perfect scene for Round 6 of the Rally American Championship.
