Steamboat Springs, CO, USA — White Oak Motorsports and the #54 National Guard Rally Racing Team are in Steamboat Springs prepping for Rally Colorado, round 8 in the Rally America Championship Series.
We had a strong fourth place finish at the Ojibwe Forest Rally the team is looking to build on our best finish in a national rally. We are pretty fired up after the finish but we also want to maintain composure and stick to our conservative strategy. Drive to finish and build points in the race for Rookie of the Year. After so many issues this season including a couple of DNF's, 7 service truck breakdowns since March that left us stranded throughout the country, racing three different cars this year...and more. We feel like we are finally putting some of the rough spots behind us. Now we want to work as a team to give Mark the ability to focus on driving.
The new 07' Subaru Impreza WRX STI might have something to do with that as well! The car has been running great all in all and despite the boost problems we had at Ojibwe it was fast and delivered.
Recce was awesome. Though not without a taste of adventure. Hole in the oil pan in the rental, check. Tow to the Hayden airport, check. New rental car and finish recce, check. Late night drive with tow truck driver back to the airport to switch the cars, check and out. Despite that we were fortunate that it happened over the lunch break and only missed about three stage miles.
Overall we can't wait to compete in Rally Colorado. The event seems very well organized, the town and countryside are beautiful and the roads are gonna be fast and technical. What more can we ask for?
