Ninth Argentine Title for Munchi's Star Villagra
Federico Villagra, who placed ninth in the final World Rally Championship standings this season, has secured his ninth Argentine title after taking victory on last weekend's Rally Gran Premio de Unquillo at the wheel of his VRS Racing Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

The 41-year-old Munchi’s Ford World Rally Team regular began the event one point clear of former Production Car world championship frontrunner Gabriel Pozzo. But Villagra, known affectionately as Coyote, came out on top after taking maximum points on both legs of the season finale to secure the crown by two points over his rival.
Afterwards, Villagra said: “I’m delighted to have won my home championship for the ninth year. It has become close - very few points separated myself and Gabriel Pozzo but it’s been great to win the final rally of the championship and to retain the title. The roads were rough this weekend as there has been some rain here recently. We had a minor problem with suspension on the first day but apart from that everything went fine.”
The event in the province of Cordoba, used stages in the Punilla Valley and Sierras Chicas mountains, which have been made famous by Argentina’s WRC qualifier, which returns to the global schedule next May following a one-year absence.
“This is a crown that was really hard to get,” continued Villagra, who hasn’t been beaten to domestic title honours since 2002. “The start of the year was difficult but after our first win of the year in Plaza Huincul we had excellent run and a very good performance of the car. We added points throughout the season - with a lot of effort from a fantastic team. I’m just delighted to have won.”
Behind Villagra, Pozzo took second in the final table in his Subaru Impreza with Marcos Ligato, another former P-WRC regular, third in the standings at the wheel of a Lancer.
Villagra plans to defend his Argentine title in 2011 alongside a nine-event WRC programme in a Fiesta RS WRC run by the Munchi’s Ford World Rally Team.
