Antoine L’Estage’s title hopes are still alive as the defending Champion prepares to battle SRT USA’s David Higgins for top honors at the New England Forest Rally.
L’Estage trails Higgins by only ten points and has the advantage of being more familiar with NEFR’s fast, rugged stages. L’Estage celebrated his first-ever Rally America title at NEFR last season after winning the rally and placed third overall here in 2009.
To win the Championship this year, L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard would have to win the event outright in addition to Higgins placing fifth or below.
L’Estage refuses to settle for less than victory, but recognizes that anything can happen on an event as tough as NEFR. Finishing is a priority.
“I want to win the championship but I know it does not depend only on me. I'll do my best and I'll try to win the rally. The championship is not over yet...David still has to finish. Maine can be rougher than other events so you never know! I also have to finish,” said L’Estage.
This is the second consecutive year L’Estage has contested all six events in the Series, earning a win at the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood and three podiums this season.
The Rockstar Mitsubishi driver comes to Maine with the champagne barely dried off from his win at Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs two weeks ago, in which he extended his lead of the Canadian Rally Championship.
