Subaru Rally Team USA driver David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew are on the verge of winning the 2011 Rally America Championship at this weekend’s New England Forest Rally.

Higgins enters the final round of the Series with a ten-point lead over defending Champion Antoine L’Estage and is seeking to conclude a successful season by bringing the title back to Subaru.

Higgins feels confident going into NEFR after having won the last three rounds of the Championship as well as recently winning the Mt. Washington Hillclimb and breaking the course record by nearly 30 seconds.

Although Higgins does not need an outright victory at NEFR to win the Championship, he must finish third overall or better to secure enough points for the title.

"As a driver I always want to win but I am well aware of looking at the bigger picture this weekend. There is a strong field of Open [class] cars so we can't go too slow, but at the same time we don't have to win the event to win the championship,” said Higgins.

Winning the Championship would mark the third American rallying title of Higgins’ career, but his first as a Subaru USA factory driver. He said, “Driving for Subaru is every rally drivers’ dream as the brand is so famous for rallying and I really want to bring the championship back to them in the USA."
